Position: Laser Material Design Engineer
Location: Ithaca, NY

Description:
The Laser Material Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and validation of photonic products based on Macom’s etched facet technology.  

Responsibilities:
Design, simulation, testing and analysis of III-V lasers for integrated, high speed, and high power products.
Work with process development and engineering team to define fabrication process, mask layout, process flow and test requirements.
Communicate and work closely with Epi grower and Test Engineers to develop new products.
Perform short and long term testing of devices to confirm that products meet design objectives and customer requirements.

Requirements:
MS (minimum) or PhD in Physics or Electrical Engineering.
Experience in the optoelectronics field with a proven track record in III-V laser and photodiode chip design from development to manufacture.
Demonstrated understanding of epitaxial design, electrical and optical simulation, and semiconductor fabrication processes such as lithography, dry etching, PECVD, and thin film deposition/analysis.
In-depth understanding of FP and DFB lasers.
Team player with good communication skills and strong technical writing ability.

Other Desired Skills and Abilities:

Experience with commercial design and software packages such as RSoft, BeamProp, AutoCAD, L-Edit, and Labview.
Experience with commercial software packages to design uncool AlGaInAs/InP MQW lasers.
Strong data analysis including database management and presentation skills.
Strong characterization skills and familiarity with CW and high speed measurements, reliability testing, and qualification standards.
Understanding of manufacturing flow and control, ISO9000, and new product development protocols.

Position: High Speed Measurement Engineer- Device Design
Location: Ithaca, NY

Description:
The High Speed Measurement Engineer is responsible for device aspects of the validation of integrated photonic products based on Macom’s etched facet technology.  

Responsibilities:
Testing and analysis of lasers and photodiodes for integrated, high speed, and high power products
Perform testing to SONET and Ethernet standards
Work with process development and engineering to define the fabrication process, mask layout, process flow and test requirements
Provide input and feedback on packaging concepts and optics requirements  
Test devices and/or work with characterization personnel to confirm that products work to design objectives

Requirements:
Basic understanding of epitaxial design, electrical and optical simulation, III-V semiconductor fabrication processes including dry and wet chemistries and thin Film analysis
Understanding of packaging interactions with device structures at frequencies up to 10GHz. Understanding of HFSS is advantageous
Team player with good communication skills and strong technical writing ability
Masters in Physics, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience required

Other Desired Skills and Abilities:

Experience with commercial design packages for examples: FIMMWAVE, Photon Design, BeamProp, LaserMOD, OptoSIM, FLEXPDE and Zemax
Characterization skills and familiarity with RIN, reliability testing, jitter, laser/photodiode testing and qualification standards
Basic understanding of manufacturing flow, ISO9001, GR-253 and development protocols

Position: Development Engineer: III-V Laser Device Design, Modeling and Test
Location: Ithaca, New York

Responsibilities:

•        Based on customer requirements and a strong knowledge of the field and scientific literature, participate in the design and development of lasers
•        Provide hands-on design, simulation, modeling, and analysis of these devices
•        Facilitate the R&D team in the appropriate design of experiments, fabrication, testing, and evaluation of performance for these devices
•        III-V laser and photodiode design using commercial and in-house developed software tools  
•        Design, simulation, testing and analysis of lasers and photodiodes for integrated, high speed, and high power products
•        Provide experience and guidance in design of experiments, laser fabrication and testing to SONET and Ethernet standards
•        Work with process development and engineering to define the fabrication process, mask layout, process flow and test requirements


Other requirements:

•        In depth knowledge of the optical component field with experience in 830nm/1310nm/1550nm semiconductor devices (e.g. lasers, detectors, waveguides, etc.)
•        Proven ability as an innovator and team member
•        Hands-on experience in computer simulation and numerical modeling of passive and active photonic devices
•        In depth understanding of semiconductor fabrication processes and device testing
•        Ideally 5+ years of semiconductor laser modeling
•        PhD or MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent discipline

PhD/Masters in Physics, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience required
