Role Summary/Purpose:

As the Environmental Risk Manager for Greater China, the job holder is responsible for implementing the GE Company and GE Capital environmental policies relating to a wide variety of financial transactions, including leasing, lending, real estate, and equity investments as well as mergers and acquisitions.  Risk management activities span due diligence, portfolio management, default resolutions, and remarketing activities.  The environmental risk manager shall develop and implement programs to identify, assess, mitigate, and monitor risks associated with environmental, health, safety, and social conditions as well as insurance and engineering issues.  This position includes coordination of environmental risk activities with GE Capital’s direct operations, investments, and joint ventures in Greater China.

This position reports directly to CRO, Greater China with an functional reporting line to the Director of Environmental Programs, GE Capital Asia Pacific.

Primary Responsibilities:
•        Drive and manage the screening, review, and due diligence of all EHS related issues relevant for credit and investment decisions across the sub-regions.
•        Advise, evaluate, coordinate and assist transaction deal teams, risk and business managers, and senior management (which may include risk/underwriting, sales, asset management functions, credit committees, and board committees) with key EHS risk issues relevant to credit, compliance, reputation in order to facilitate lending, investment, portfolio management with respect, EHS risks, mitigants, and management strategies.  
•        Monitor compliance with all agreed EHS terms, programs, processes and requirements across all GE Capital loans, leases and investments in China.
•        Support, mentor, and train EHS and other staff within joint ventures in managing environmental risks for equipment leasing, including managing environmental risks associated with underwriting lease transactions; implementing EHS policy; ensuring compliance with applicable EHS laws, and providing monitoring and performance reporting to the venture’s compliance, risk, and audit committee and board of directors.  
•        Participate in GE China’s EHS Council in identifying, sharing, and promoting best practices in the field of environmental risk as well as networking with environmental professionals among GE’s businesses and joint ventures in China.
•        Oversee all EHS, engineering, and insurance services provided by third parties, covering sourcing and performance of contractors and consultants.
•        Coordinate with facilities team to ensure EHS compliance for office-based employees and remarketing operations.
•        Work productively in a fast-paced transaction and financial business environment.
•        This position requires travel to various project and customer sites in Greater China to conduct and oversee or monitor EHS activities, with approximately 30 to 40 percent of time spent away from the office.
•        Demonstrate outstanding written and verbal communication skills, influencing skills, and interpersonal skills to navigate successfully in a global financial services organization.
•        Maintain a detailed working knowledge of global EHS risk management practices, China EHS rules and regulations, and EHS trends in Asia.
•        Other responsibilities as required.

Qualifications Required:
•        4-year university degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Law or related degree.
•        10 years' professional experience in EHS management, with experience in EHS risk management in a financial or transactions setting, preferably including at least 5 years’ experience working with EHS standards and regulations in China.
•        Experience implementing plans to measure, monitor and mitigate risk.
•        Fluent speaking, reading, and writing in English and Chinese.
•        Demonstrated ability to develop and achieve measurable goals.
•        Strong leadership, interpersonal, influencing, communication and presentation skills.
•        Proven ability to organize and focus teams, tasks and requests.

Desired:
•        Experience in China or Asia Pacific region conducting due diligence and transaction-related risk management and compliance work.
•        Knowledge of energy and power generation industries.
•        Proven process improvement and digitization skills.
•        Advanced degree in business, finance, or law.
